Last summer DMACC made some changes to our incoming telephone lines that not only save the college money but also provide other technical benefits. One downside that you may have noticed is that sending and receiving faxes has become unreliable.
Shortly before the Christmas break Systems Integration began migrating our fax service to a cloud provider to improve the fax services.All outbound faxes are now being handled by the newfax cloud service. Some inbound faxes will start to be handled by the new cloud service starting this week. It takes several weeks to transition a fax number to the new cloud service so it may take a while for all ofour fax numbers to be transitioned.
To send a fax, send an email to 81<faxnumber>@fax.dmacc.edu. This can be done by the scan to email feature of a multi-function printer or by your email client. PDFs, Word documents, and other common file formats included as attachments will be converted and included in the fax. If you are using a multi-function printer to scan a document and fax it, you need to ensure that the printer uses your email address as the “From” address. Invalid “From” addresses will result in the fax being rejected without any notice given to you. If the correct “From” address was used, you will receive an email notifying you of the success or failure of the fax.If you have difficulty changing the “From” address on the MFP, it may be easier to scan the fax to your email address first from the MFP. Then you can forward the fax to 81<faxnumber>@fax.dmacc.edufrom Outlook.
The new cloud fax solution does not have the native ability to store incoming faxes in SharePoint libraries. Unless Systems Integration is notified, inbound faxes will be sent as emails to the people that had access to the former SharePoint libraries.Faxes that were previously delivered to email addresses or to a channel on Microsoft Teams will continue unchanged. To change how faxes are handled for a particular fax number please open a ticket at https://support.dmacc.edu/or email email@example.com. We will work with you to make those changes.The new cloud fax solution also has a web interface that you can use to monitor incoming and outgoing faxes as well as use a web interface to compose new faxes. To use the web interface, go to https://portal.xmedius.com/dmacc. If this is your first time using the web interface, you may be redirected to a login page that looks like the following:
Enter "DMACC" into the field labelled "Enterprise Account". Entering tab or clicking into an another field will redirect you to the myDMAC login page which will authenticate you using your DMACC account. After you have authenticated you will be directed to the web interface, which looks like this:
From this page you can compose a new fax, see the history of inbound faxes, see the history of outbound faxes, and see the status of any faxes currently in progress. We are also working on enabling faxing from the print menu of Windows applications. We will follow up with additional instructions once that is avaialable.
